09 Jul Love your skin with this daily skin care routine.

Skin care routines have existed for centuries. Over two thousand years ago, Cleopatra was said to have bathed daily in milk to maintain her soft, smooth skin. Nowadays we are bamboozled with more creams and exfoliators than we know what to do with and it all takes so much time. Time not all of us have. Well, we at Vita want to share a fantastically simple, daily skin care routine. FYI, it does not involve bathing in milk. (Though that does sound kinda fun!)

Love your skin

Step 1: Know your skin type

An effective skin care routine depends on your skin type. Do you know yours? Read our blog on how to establish your skin type.

Step 2: Cleanse

Don’t cleanse too often and definitely don’t use soap: it will dry out your skin. Wash your face at night to remove make-up or sun cream, both of which can clog your pores. Ensure any eye makeup is removed with a proper makeup remover. Did you know that olive oil makes a great natural eye makeup remover?

Next you should wash your face with warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Then take a small amount of cleanser (about the size of a penny) and scrub your face using a circular motion, before rinsing your face again with lukewarm water.

Each morning simply splash your face with lukewarm water. Never use hot or cold water! Both hot and cold water can cause broken capillaries in your skin: we want skin care not skin damage!

Step 3: Exfoliate

How often you exfoliate depends on your skin type. The majority of people have a combination of oily and dry skin. Those men and women with this skin type should be exfoliating 2-3 times a week.

If you have dry skin, try using a cleansing brush on your face as well as a mild exfoliating cleanser. Those with oily skin should benefit from a little extra exfoliation but not more than 4 times per week.

Buy a cleanser that is designed for your specific skin type. And remember, your skin should enjoy being exfoliated. It should not look red and sore afterwards!

Step 4: Moisturize

There are lots of great moisturizers available and even some wonderfully effective natural products such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil and jojoba oil. How often you should be moisturizing all depends on your skin and the type of conditions you are exposing your skin to. For instance, during harsh, cold winter months your skin will likely crave for some T.L.C. from a moisturizer. Listen to your skin; if it feels tight it needs the love of a moisturizer.

Skin care advice varies from person to person. The tips and advice in this article will help you to improve the health and condition of your skin, however, you should fine tune it to suit your skin’s individual needs. Always make sure you read the directions included with any products and pay attention to the reaction of your skin: if your routine results in dry or sore looking skin – something needs to change.
