06 Aug Eat your way to good health with these superfoods!

Superfood is another way of saying: very, very, very healthy food! They are packed full of nutrients and antioxidants that can have a dramatic impact on the health and beauty of your body. We have all heard about superfoods such as blueberries and salmon – but there are far more exotic and interesting foods to choose from too.

Eat your way to good

Here is a selection of 5 superfoods that your plate and your body are simply crying out for:

Açai – this small purple berry which originates from the rain forests of South America is claimed to have weight-loss and anti-ageing qualities. It contains oleic acid which is a magic component also found in the well-known, health potion known as olive oil. (Photo – Açai juice with blueberries and mint leaves!)

Goji berries – the health benefits of goji berries have been promoted for a while now. So much so, that they are frequently found on supermarket shelves. They are packed full of vitamin C and antioxidants. They are a centuries-old Chinese herbal remedy for ailments such as poor circulation. And did we say they taste great?

Seaweed – it is the vegetable of the sea and full of omega-3 fatty acids. Your heart and brain love omega-3 fatty acids and by adding seaweed to your diet you can help prevent against a stroke and heart attack. Seaweed also contains a host of minerals: calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and potassium to name a few!

Kefir – originating from Russia, this is a milk based drink that has a sour taste similar to yoghurt. Kefir is jam-packed with probiotics (good bacteria) that can boost your immune system and aid digestion.

Chia Seeds – native to Mexico, these seeds are a great addition to any dish: porridge, stir-fries or a smoothie. As well as having an appealing nutty flavour they contain lots of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and calcium. Find them at your health store or online.
