21 May Be part of the 28%: skin care advice from Vita

According to a recent survey by the British Association of Dermatologists, a shocking proportion of people – 72% – admitted burning their skin last year. At Vita Hair & Beauty we care about your health as well as your looks: effective skin care is vital to both. We have put together this guide with skin care tips on how to best protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays – allowing you to be part of this year’s 28%!

Be part of the 28

Sun cream – ok, so you know already that sun cream is important. But do you know what protection your sun cream should offer? And how to apply it? Firstly, you should be applying sun cream 20-30 minutes before you venture out into the sun. Then re-apply your sun cream a second time 20 minutes later for maximum protection, followed by regular top-ups at two hour intervals. And finally, look for a sun cream that protects your skin from both UVB and UVA rays. An SPF of 30 or above is advised by the British Association of Dermatologists.

Exfoliate – skin care should be appropriate to your skin type or condition. Dry skin should ideally be exfoliated 1-2 times a week, whereas oily skin should be exfoliated 2-3 times. Exfoliation helps cleanse the skin of blockages including the build-up of dead skin. Your skin will be rejuvenated: feeling softer and looking brighter.

Moisturise with SPF – with warmer weather coming to London, applying a moisturiser with SPF can help prevent sun spots and early signs of ageing.

Antioxidants – skin care products that contain antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and a cup of green tea can all help to reverse the effects of sun damage.

Cover up – it is important to remember that over exposure to the sun is, at best, guaranteed to develop wrinkles in your skin. Sadly, many will suffer a worse fate – more than 2,000 people die from skin cancer each year in the UK. So, please, take care of your skin and cover up! Every summer, in Hyde Park, just minutes down the road from our Kensington and Chelsea beauty salon, it is difficult to see the grass for all the flesh on show. Consider the risks: is tanned skin worth damaging your health? We don’t think so.

A safer alternative – you can follow the above advice and still achieve gorgeous, bronzed skin. How? By using Vita Beauty’s tanning service. Our superb tanning service uses Vita Liberata products – a brand that is at the cutting edge of tanning technology. We can give you the exact skin tone you desire and, best of all, you and your skin will be genuinely healthy for it.

Look great and be safe this summer!
